The
AyM workshop was founded in Madrid at the beginning of the XXth century
by José Arnillas (Madrid, 1880-1945, Madrid Fine Arts graduate) and
U. Matallana, with the name of Arnillas y Matallana.

The machinery was brought from
Germany and England and part of it is still in use, such as the reduction
lathe, irreplaceable for bas-relief engraving. |

At that time this equipment must
have appeared highly innovative, having been perfected towards the end of
the XIX Century. |

During the Civil War and post-war
period almost all the documentation and die-work for mintings carried out
during the monarchy of Alfonso XIII and the Republic was totally lost. |
